Description
The YAP(Ce) Scintillation Crystal is a high-speed material known for its high mechanical resistance and stability. It features a peak emission near 370 nm, providing a higher light yield compared to YAG(Ce). Because it is non-hygroscopic and chemically stable, it is used for electron microscopy, X-ray imaging screens, and advanced tomography systems. YAP(Ce) is YAlO3:Ce with a very fast decay time (~27 ns) for high-rate counting and imaging. It is fast and easily machinable. The principle is the scintillator.
YAP(Ce) Scintillation Crystal mechanical advantages
High mechanical resistance for demanding use. Non-hygroscopic. Chemically stable. No airtight sealing is needed. Stable even under high vacuum. Excellent machining allows ultra-thin aluminum entrance windows. The low-energy detection stays efficient. The vacuum compatibility opens EM applications. The thin windows cut low-energy losses.
YAP(Ce) Scintillation Crystal optical performance
The peak emission near 370 nm matches S11 PMT sensitivity. A higher light yield than YAG(Ce). The low-energy secondary X-ray emissions mean minimal background noise. It delivers clean signals at high speed. The S11 PMTs pair naturally. The low background means clean images. It offers speed plus clarity.
Typical applications
Electron microscopy (SEM/TEM). X-ray imaging screens with fast refresh. Gamma and X-ray counting. Tomography systems (medical and industrial CT). High-vacuum instruments value the stability. Match the screen to the source. Fast refresh suits dynamic imaging. Compare YAP(Ce) with our LYSO(Ce) Scintillation Crystal for PET applications.
