Description
ZGP Infrared Crystal (ZnGeP2) single crystals are non-linear optical materials for the middle IR. Positive birefringence enables phase-matched parametric frequency conversion across the full transparency range.
ZGP Infrared Crystal transparency
Background transparency spans 0.74 to 12.0 um. Useful transmission runs 1.9 to 8.6 um and 9.6 to 10.2 um. Phase matching works over a broad spectral region. A 2.0 um pump yields tunable mid-IR output. The two useful bands bracket the atmospheric windows designers target.
ZGP Infrared Crystal key features
Large nonlinear optical coefficient drives efficient conversion. High laser damage threshold handles intense beams. High thermal conductivity keeps heat moving. Stable mechanical properties simplify mounting. High-repetition-rate systems stay stable. The stable mechanics hold alignment under vibration.
Typical applications
Second, third, and fourth harmonic generation of CO2 and chemical DF lasers. Optical parametric generation pumped at 2.0 um. Up-conversion of CO2 and CO laser radiation to the near IR via harmonics. Generation and mixing processes. Sensing systems use ZGP for mid-IR generation. Research labs value the broad phase-matching for experiments. For a 3-5 um OPO alternative, see our KTA Non-Linear Crystal.
