Description

DKDP KDP Non-Linear Crystal covers two of the most widely used commercial NLO materials: KDP and its deuterated form DKDP. They handle the doubling, tripling, and quadrupling of YAG(Nd) lasers at room temperature. In addition, both are excellent electro-optic crystals with high electro-optic coefficients. Consequently, room-temperature operation keeps the setup simple: no ovens, no thermal stabilization hardware.

Second-harmonic generation is the bread-and-butter job: 1064 nm in, 532 nm out. Moreover, third- and fourth-harmonic generation extend the reach into the UV. Good UV transmission keeps those short wavelengths usable. High birefringence gives the phase matching room to work with. Because both crystals grow to large sizes, aperture is rarely the limit. Therefore, large apertures suit high-energy beams. For background on the physics, see nonlinear optics.

DKDP KDP Non-Linear Crystal in electro-optic duty

High electro-optic coefficients make these crystals excellent electro-optic modulators. For example, they serve as Q-switches and Pockels cells in diverse laser systems. In addition, deuteration shifts the infrared absorption edge, which is why DKDP suits high-average-power switching. Finally, for a finished switching device, see our DKDP Pockels Cell.

Advantages at a glance

First, the damage threshold is high, so the crystal survives high-power laser frequency conversion. Second, UV transmission is good. Third, birefringence is high. Finally, the electro-optic coefficients are high. Together, these traits cover both nonlinear and electro-optic duty in one material.

KDP or DKDP?

KDP covers standard jobs at lower cost. By contrast, DKDP, the deuterated form, fits applications that need the shifted absorption edge. X-Z LAB supplies both, so the choice follows your wavelength and power level.

Typical applications

Dye laser frequency conversion uses them for SHG, THG, and FHG. High power laser frequency conversion leans on the damage threshold. Finally, electro-optical modulators, Q-switches, and Pockels cells complete the application list.
