Description
Nd YVO4 Laser Crystal is one of the most efficient laser host crystals for diode pumping available today. Its large stimulated emission cross-section, high absorption coefficient, and wide absorption bandwidth work together. The host is neodymium-doped yttrium orthovanadate, a proven diode-pumped gain medium.
Nd YVO4 Laser Crystal vs Nd:YAG
Absorption coefficient runs over five times larger across a wide pumping bandwidth around 808 nm. Stimulated emission cross-section is three times larger at 1064 nm. Consequently, the lasing threshold drops and slope efficiency rises. Less pump heat means simpler thermal design. Low-power DPSS pointers and markers run on modest diodes. Moreover, the wide 808 nm bandwidth tolerates diode wavelength drift with temperature.
Nd YVO4 Laser Crystal diode pumping
High absorption coefficient plus wide absorption bandwidth at the pump wavelength means efficient diode coupling. The high laser-induced damage threshold protects the crystal at power. Good physical, optical, and mechanical properties. Therefore, compact DPSS designs favor it for efficiency and size. The resonator stays short and the system stays small. In addition, low threshold means the laser turns on with less pump power.
Typical applications
Diode laser pumped solid-state lasers are the core use. Middle power and low power DPSS lasers follow. OEM modules for sensing and measurement specify it for efficiency. R&D labs use it wherever compact 1064 nm sources are needed for prototyping. For the classic high-power choice, see our YAG(Nd) Laser Crystal.
