Description

Nd YAG Laser Crystal is the most commonly used solid-state crystal material. It combines high gain, low threshold, high efficiency, and low loss at 1064 nm with high optical quality and good mechanical and thermal properties. The material is neodymium-doped YAG.

Nd YAG Laser Crystal fundamentals

Easy TEM00 operation is a key advantage. It works in many solid-state laser systems. Fluorescence lifetime runs twice that of YVO4(Nd). Thermal conductivity is better as well. Consequently, stored energy stays high and heat stays manageable.

Nd YAG Laser Crystal power scaling

Operation in high power lasers reaches the kW level at 1064 nm. High gain and good thermal properties make that scaling practical. Industrial systems use Nd:YAG for multi-hundred-watt to kilowatt output. Moreover, the mature supply chain keeps costs predictable for volume production.

Frequency conversion options

Frequency-doubling of 946 nm produces blue lasers. SHG at 1064 nm yields high-power green. Direct Q-switching pairs with Cr4+:YAG for pulsed operation. One crystal feeds infrared, green, and blue outputs.

Typical applications

High-power 1064 nm lasers for cutting and welding remain the core application. Blue and green sources via doubling. Q-switched systems with Cr4+:YAG. For a higher-gain alternative, see our YVO4(Nd) Laser Crystal.
