Description

Diffusion Bonded Crystal from X-Z LAB joins two, three, or more crystal segments with different doping levels into one monolithic rod. The segments are combined by optical contact and then bonded under high temperatures. The payoff is a diffusion-bonded composite with no glue lines and no interfaces to fail. Undoped end caps are the classic example: they let the pumped region run hot while the ends stay cool and distortion-free.

Why choose Diffusion Bonded Crystal

The headline benefit is thermal: bonding decreases the thermal lens effect considerably. Because each segment can carry its own doping level, heat spreads more evenly than in a uniformly doped rod. As a result, beam quality holds up at higher powers. In addition, the composite delivers high damage threshold, high efficiency, and low heat effect in a compact size.

Diffusion Bonded Crystal for system builders

This bonding technology is also conducive to the integration of laser systems — one bonded rod replaces several separate parts. Furthermore, it opens access to large-size crystals that would be hard to grow as a single doped boule.

Built for high-power operation

High-power lasers punish weak joints, so a monolithic bonded rod is a natural fit. There are no adhesives to degrade under intense light. Consequently, the composite survives where glued assemblies would fail.

Typical applications

Semiconductor-pumped solid-state lasers are the natural home: the bonded rod handles the pump heat while keeping the beam clean. For a classic gain material to pair it with, see our Nd:YAG Laser Crystal.
